My wife and I spent a Saturday night at this lovely inn. The Sunnyside Sisters has been lovingly refurbished and decorated by its Dutch owners, Martyn an Eveline. We stayed in the Ole Miss room on the ground floor, which is large and comfortable with an adjoining enormous bathroom. The house sits on many shaded acres and is a short drive to historic downtown Clarksville. A delicious breakfast of fresh baked bread, Dutch cheese, egg soufflé, sausages, fresh squeezed orange juice, homemade jam, and strong Dutch coffee was served in the dining room. We enjoyed hearing from Martyn a brief history of the historic property, as well as their adventures searching, purchasing, and updating the quarters. What a treat!

If you are looking for a true historical stay with a Dutch touch this bed & breakfast is it! While keeping true to the properties history and adding a touch of where the owners are from (Netherlands) this has it all. The breakfast was a true delight with fresh baked bread (I could eat everyday), egg souffle, amazing Dutch coffee and special foods from the Netherlands (Hagelslag). The character and charm of this property is beautiful. Bringing pieces from the Netherlands while keeping most true to the history of the house. The room was beautiful, amazing, big bathroom with soaking tub and shower. The location is perfect as we were only a short drive to main street where you can shop, grab a bite to eat or get a drink. The owners are absolutely wonderful! While I could go on and on, this is truly something you must experience yourself! We will be back.

Unexpectedly had to stay in town very last minute for Thanksgiving weekend last month. My father booked us a night here and we had never stayed at a bed and breakfast before bc we’re from out of state where they’re generally less common. Honestly, this was THE BEST first impression and experience one could ask for! Martijn was very kind and gave us a warm welcome and even helped us with our luggage. Hospitality was top-tier and our room was filled with history and class✨
Breakfast: Food is homemade and delicious! They serve not only Dutch food but history and fun facts of Dutch culture as well. I personally have diet restrictions due to dairy allergy and they were so understanding and able to adhere to my diet and make a course specifically for me. I felt so cared for as a guest that they had remembered! Everything tasted so fresh!
We felt so much at home that we had to stay a 2nd night! Will definitely be staying here from now on!🥰

What a lovely and unique experience! Peaceful and charming property with a really interesting history. The owner greeted us upon arrival and was very kind and informative. Enjoyed a fresh cup of coffee with my early morning read in a rocking chair outside. Drug my husband out of bed to indulge in an authentic (and delicious) Dutch breakfast with organic Dutch cheese, homemade organic bread, farm fresh egg & cheese soufflé, fresh squeezed OJ, fruit, yogurt, and granola and many special touches (during the entire stay, not just breakfast). A perfect quick getaway from Raleigh to unwind & refresh.

What a wonderful stay with such wonderful hosts.
My wife and I made a last minute reservation on a Sunday night and showed up 15 minutes later. Even after what must have been an exhausting weekend with a full house, hosts Martijn and Eveline Broeders, greeted us warmly and welcomed us in. We stayed in The Bella, or the “Orange Room” and had the house to ourselves for the night.
After taking in some local fare for dinner, we settled in for a night of peace and quiet in our comfortable room. In the morning, we enjoyed a large, Dutch inspired breakfast that included everything from yogurt and fruit, to a soufflé and homemade bread. It was accompanied with fresh squeezed orange juice and of course excellent Dutch coffee.
Possibly the best part of the visit was time spent talking about their story of coming to America from the Netherlands and renovating the old property… and of course, our families’ dogs!
We highly recommend a visit and will travel back that way ourselves sometime soon.

My daughter and I met up at Sunnyside Sisters B&B for a quick pre-Christmas get together. What an amazing weekend. Martyn and Evelyn were wonderful hosts, cooked amazing authentic Dutch food, provided terrific recommendations for the area. They even gave us a tour of the building to include all the history!
The B&B was beautifully decorated for the holidays which only added to the already beautiful decor. It was the perfect cozy retreat to enjoy a little early Christmas magic!

We had a wonderful stay at Sunnyside Sisters B&B and I highly recommend it if you want to experience warm hospitality provided by a lovely couple from the Netherlands. The old plantation house and grounds are a beautiful backdrop where you can relax and unwind. The history of the place was part of the reason that we wanted to go (make sure to read about it on their website). Eveline prepared delicious breakfast entrees with homemade Dutch bread and Martyn served them graciously, making sure all was in place for our enjoyment. Their attention to detail was evident from our lovely room with a comfy bed (we were in the Miss Agne's room with a gas fireplace), well appointed en suite bathroom, charming breakfast room (with treasures from the Netherlands - delftware, grandfather clock and paintings) and up to date wifi capability. The Inn is conveniently located less than 5 minute drive or a 20 minute walk to Clarksville by the lake and about a 15 minute drive to Occoneechee State Park. We look forward to staying at Sunnyside Sisters again very soon because the thoughtful care that our hosts showed us was so memorable. Thank you!

This was our first stay at the Sunnyside Sisters Bed and Breakfast and our experience exceeded all expectations. When we arrived to check in Eveline was at the front door with a welcoming smile and greeting. We were given an overview of the property and shown to our spacious room (the Miss Emily). After playing a band gig at Buggs Island Brewing and being totally exhausted the bed felt so good. We slept great and woke up the next morning totally refreshed. As promised, a Dutch breakfast awaited us. After enjoying some wonderfully tasty coffee, Martijn graciously served us a delicious soufflé which I had never had before, gouda cheese straight from Holland, fresh bread that was so good, fresh squeezed orange juice, and sausage links. I usually don't eat much breakfast but this was delicious. While eating Martijn answered our many questions about the history of the place which I am sure happens alot. While feasting on our breakfast we also enjoyed meeting some of the other guests and getting to know them a bit. Overall, the experience was great! The Sunnyside Sisters possesses personality and character not to be found in a cookie cutter hotel or any other B&B I have experienced - Highly Recommended.

Never in my life have I not wanted to leave a place more than right now. The Sunnyside Sisters Bed & Breakfast is the most incredible place I have ever stayed, and I've stayed at The Stanley Hotel. This place is worth driving 8 hours for no reason other than to stay here for a couple nights!

Historic charm, warm hospitality, impeccably decorated, gourmet breakfast, thriving local community with year round outdoor recreation - WOW.
We are participating in the VA State Parks Trail Quest, and the Sunnyside Sisters B&B is conveniently located near three parks on the VA/NC border. We were intrigued by its story, the online photos promised comfort, and with so many favorable reviews booked our stay.
Driving into the entranceway in late afternoon golden winter sunlight accented the cheerful arrival. We were greeted by our host who could not have been more accommodating - helping with luggage, describing notable features of the former schoolhouse, and offering a sense that we were going to be pampered throughout our stay.
Our visit could easily have extended to several days. Clarksville has a delightful throwback Main Street - shops and services with wide sidewalks to stroll at your leisure. The waterfront area offers lake views - and despite the chilly fall weather there were recreational boats on the water. Summer holidays would be fantastic here!
The Schoolhouse’s story is evolving - peeling back verifiable and documented history takes time and effort. But the owners’ dedication - and devotion - to resurrecting its history is a saga well worth learning.
The owners are Dutch and have brought many Old World heirloom pieces of furniture and gorgeous chandeliers to complement home decorations from the original schoolhouse. And of course this was all accomplished amidst COVID, a testament to the owners’ vision and drive.
The BnB touts its Dutch breakfast - expect the unexpected - it is a leisurely repast with unique flavor combinations. Experiment - the food will open your eyes to culinary respect and dedication. You won’t be disappointed.
As we packed the car to head out on our planned journey, we couldn’t avoid thinking we’d be back here some day. A little slice of heaven in a beautiful part of the Commonwealth.
